This blog will be about Diana Al-Hadid and her art. Diana is a 42 year old artist who currently works and lives in Brooklyn, New York. Her work consists of large-scale sculptures and wall hangings. These pieces are made with many different materials such as plaster, wood, cardboard, and metal. Diana’s work draws inspiration from many topics including history, the female body, ancient architecture, and physics.
I am choosing to write about Diana for a few reasons. To start, I love her goal of making the improbable. The way some of her pieces seem to be on the brink of falling over or collapsing but don't is amazing. I like how there is movement in all of her work, and none of her pieces seem static. How she plays with dimension and negative space, shows the amount of thought and time she put into her pieces. I think the way she combines digital art and sculpture is amazing. It is inspiring to see how Diana has mastered more than one art form and uses that ability to create these larger than life pieces. While I do usually gravitate towards more colorful works of art, I think Diana’s neutral toned pieces are beautiful. Finally, as an artist born in Ohio it is encouraging to see how far Diana has come knowing she grew up here too.
In this blog I intend to talk more about Diana, her sculpture process, and a variety of her pieces. I am excited to get to learn more about her and share what I find! Below is a picture of one of her pieces so you can get a preview of her style.
