I did not watch the Oscars this year, but I heard about what happened the day after. The Oscars is such a big event, so the fact that such a huge mistake was made was really surprising. When it comes to the typography of the card, I can see how it was confusing. I never really thought about how important text hierarchy is and the kinds of problems it could cause. Usually I just make the title/name of the event the biggest thing because it's what's going to catch people's attention. And then any additional information is usually the same size and just spaced out. However, if the text is all the same weight and arranged in a way where the most important information is the last thing someone looks at, it's bound to cause confusion. In the case of the Oscars card the award being presented should have been the biggest text and at the top, while the logo for the Oscars should have been at the bottom since it was not being presented.
