How To Choose A Typeface

The article “How To Choose A Typeface” gave me a lot of valuable information about fonts, which is an important aspect of design. I have had experience working with type before, I even created my own font as part of a school project, but this article covered many elements I had never heard of/considered. For example, I had never heard of x-height before reading the article and had no clue that it could cause illegibility. I was always under the impression that the illustrative/visual parts of a design were the most important, and in previous projects it had always been the focus. This article really helped to illuminate the fact that the text used in a design is just as important. I also really liked the tip the article gave about judging aesthetics by looking at a typeface and writing down words you associate with the typeface and then comparing that to your design objective. It seems like a helpful tool that I can use to make more cohesive pieces.
